Should you buy a pc system Windows or Free DOS?

A laptop with free DOS means it comes without a PAID operating system pre-installed. So you're expected to either have a copy of operating system such as windows with you
Which means 2 things, it can come with DOS(disk operating system, purely command line) or any other free OS such as Ubuntu or any other Linux distribution like mint/lubuntu etc.

  1.  They are cheaper.                                                                                                     Compared to their Windows counterpart with the same hardware specifications, FreeDOS is cheaper and this is because FreeDOS is an open source project which means it is free which also means that the manufactures of the laptop won’t have to pay for license, unlikegenuine Windows OSwhich the manufacturers have to obtain their licenses from Microsoft.
  2. . You have more options.

More options in the sense that you can choose which OS and the version you want such as windows 7, windows 8, windows 10, or even another OS entirely such as FreeBSD (which is also an open source project) should you want to overwrite the FreeDOS.

DISADVANTAGES OF FREEDOS

  • Installing genuine Windows might cost you a lot.

As mentioned earlier, Windows laptops come pre-loaded with genuine windows OS which will cost you a lot if you want to purchase them.
If you add up the cost of purchasing a genuine windows OS and the FreeDOS laptop, it will normally exceed the cost of the same laptop (with the same hardware specifications) that came pre-installed with windows.
Alternatively, you can opt-in for retail copy of Windows OS (normally sold in DVD) which are cheaper by far but has its own disadvantages.
  • Not very useful

You won’t be able to use most software on FreeDOS system which limits its usefulness. This disadvantage will most likely make you want to install windows OS which will take you back to the number one disadvantage..

CONCLUSION

If you are not overly concerned over the genuineness of your Windows OS, you may want to go for FreeDOS and then install Windows OS later with the retail copy of the Windows OS since the overall cost will be cheaper. Otherwise, I don’t see any other reason you shouldn’t you go for a windows laptop if you’re a Windows OS fan.
